Next year, Indiana will be celebrating 200 years! In this bicentennial celebration, many events and activities will be planned to have all of our state’s citizens take part.
As 6.5 million Hoosiers reside in Indiana, one key event will be the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Run, which will make its way through Hamilton County on October 13, 2016. Torchbearers will travel statewide via bike, car, train, foot, fire engines, tractors, boats, helicopters and more.
The Torch Run will make a five-and-a-half week journey and travel over 2,300 miles, through each of our state’s 92 counties. The Run will begin on September 9 in Corydon and conclude on the grounds of the statehouse downtown Indianapolis on October 15. Specifically, the Hamilton County route will end on the Noblesville Courthouse Square.
In total, nearly 2,000 torchbearers will be honored to carry the torch. In effort to find torchbearers within our county, Hamilton County seeks nominations of people who are hometown heroes…those who are really making a difference within our county. Nominees may be current or former Hamilton County residents.
The criteria for nomination includes:
- Exceptional public service to their county and/or community
- Achievement and excellence in their profession
- Acts of heroism
- Exceptional volunteer service and leadership to their neighborhood, community, region or state
