Indy 500: the 100th Running.

It’s a spectacular year to be a Hoosier. The year of the bicentennial AND the 100th running of our very own greatest spectacle in racing…the Indianapolis 500.

If you’re looking for ways to be involved in the fun, here are some of the events taking place.

Friday, May 27: Carb Day, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Gates open at 8a. Journey takes the stage to close the day at 4:30p.

Saturday, May 28:

  • IPL Indy 500 Festival Parade, downtown Indy. Starts at noon. Local teen, Emma Stumpf, has been named Grand Marshal of the parade. Enjoy local bands, listen to live music, see local and national athletes, musicians, celebrities and more. Click here for the parade route.
  • IMS Track events. Gates open at 8a. Indy 500 Memorabilia Show from 8a – 3p; Full Field Autograph Session – Pagoda Plaza from 9a – 10 a; Historic Race Car Laps from 9a – 10:15a; Corey Cox concert at 3:45p; Chris Janson concert at 4p; Blake Shelton concert at 5p; gates close at 6p.

Sunday, May 29: The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Here’s a rundown of the race day events.

  • 06:00am – Public Gates Open
  • 06:00am – 12:00pm – Ticket Office Open
  • 08:00am – 10:00am – Borg-Warner Trophy March to the Bricks
  • 08:00am – 09:15am – Parade of Bands
  • 09:00am – Celebrity Red Carpet – Pagoda Plaza
  • 09:45am – 500 Festival Princess Lap
  • 10:06am – “On The Banks of the Wabash” performed by Purdue University Band
  • 10:25am – Green Flag Delivered to Turn 1 by IU Health Helicopter
  • 11:00am – Decade Car Laps
  • 10:40am – Former Indy 500 Champion Laps
  • 11:10am – Military Silverado Laps
  • 11:38am – Driver Introductions
  • 11:52am – “America the Beautiful” – performed by Military Trio with Purdue Band
  • 11:54am – Military Speech – General Anderson
  • 11:55am – Presentation of Colors
  • 11:56am – Invocation – Archbishop of Indianapolis
  • 11:57am – “Taps”
  • 11:58am – “God Bless America”
  • 12:01pm – “National Anthem” – performed by Darius Rucker
  • 12:03pm – Military Flyover
  • 12:12pm – “Back Home Again in Indiana” – performed by Josh Kaufman and ICC
  • 12:14pm – “Drivers Start Your Engines”
  • 12:19pm – 100th Running of the Indy 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil – 200 Laps
  • 06:00pm – Public Gates Close
