While it’s hardly felt much like winter these days, if you’re thinking of listing your home, staging it for the sometimes drab days of winter is a key component in selling your home.
Here are some suggestions for staging your home this winter.
Maximize the light. Early sunsets and darker days mean making the most of the light for showings. Be sure to leave on the lights during scheduled showings. Pull curtains back to allow natural light to filter into the room during the day. Illuminate your front porch and driveway for evening showings.
Up the thermostat. While your thermostat is likely programmed to be cooler while you’re at work, be sure to keep your heat turned up to a comfortable setting during daytime showings. Stage your home with cozy throws on sofas and soft rugs over hardwood and tile floors to give the feeling of warmth. Add pops of color with brightly-bloomed winter flowers or fresh cut flowers in a vase in your kitchen or master bath.
Warm up the photography. If your marketing photos are taken with snow on the ground (which we haven’t seen much of yet), add listing photos you have of your home from summer or fall so that potential buyers will see the home with a green lawn and more colorful landscaping.
Keep sidewalks and driveway clean. If it snows, be sure to have the driveway and sidewalks shoveled and free of ice so that the home is easily accessible and safe. Potential buyers won’t want to trek through snow-covered areas to see your home.
Maximize curb appeal. Since flowers and shrubs are not in bloom, make a statement with a great front door color, accent wreath and new doormat. Be sure holiday decorations and lights are removed.
